Parents assist the School in a variety of ways. Parents may help in:
school organisations
classrooms assisting with academic programs
our sports program
our canteen
with grounds improvement
the library
Macquarie Community College provides a wide variety of adult education
courses at Cherrybrook PS.
A Dance School is conducted in the school auditorium five days
a week after school.
Music tuition is provided by tutors on a ‘user pays system’
throughout the year.
Sports Teams use the school oval for weekend sport.
Out Of School Hours (OOSH) Care is available to students in “Dorothy’s
Cottage”. It is a childcare centre that aims to provide high quality
care at affordable rates.
Cherrybrook OOSH is managed by a parent management committee who employ
qualified staff.
The centre is open between the hours of:
7am – 8:30am and 3pm – 6:30pm, Monday to Friday during school
terms.
It is also open on School Development Days.
The timber building, situated at the end of the staff car park, was originally
a classroom at Thornleigh Public School. Following negotiations between
the P&C and the Department of School Education it was transported
to the current site in 1990. To obtain the building the P&C had to
meet the cost of removal from its original site.
The building was named by a student fascinated by the similarity to Dorothy’s
Cottage in the “Wizard of Oz”.

The School Council consists of parent, staff and community representatives.
The Principal and the President of the Parents' and Citizens' Association
are also members of the Council. The Council is involved in broad policy
issues and budgeting.
The school has a very active P&C Association. Meetings are held
on the second Tuesday of each month at 8.00pm in the library. New members
are always welcome.
These meetings are an important link between home and school, as they
often are used to explain and demonstrate new ideas in our programs.
The P&C plays a vital role in fund raising which supports our enriched
curriculum. The Association also plays a vital role in improving the
physical appearance of the school.
These are held once per term on a Sunday involving parents, dedicated
staff and students to maintain a safe and attractive playground environment.
The day’s hard work is concluded with a sausage sizzle lunch.
These days enhance community relations.
The canteen operates daily, selling items at Recess and Lunchtime. Lunch
orders must be placed before 8.50am.
The canteen relies on the constant support of voluntary help from parents,
grandparents and friends.
Parent tutors provide support for our Learning Difficulties program
by hearing students read on a regular basis which increases the self
esteem of students as well as their reading ability. Parent tutors are
highly valued by the school. They receive training from the Learning
Difficulties teacher and there is always room for more volunteers.
Parents and family friends are welcomed in classes. They carry out a
multitude of roles including management of home readers, running reading
groups, organising activities in a wide variety of forms which frees
the teacher to focus on individual students.
Parents are always required to support extra curricula activities such
as dance, band and sport and often have the chance to attend excursions
and days out with the children.
