Parents assist the School in a variety of
ways. Parents may help in:
-
Parents and Citizens Association
-
School Band Program
-
classrooms assisting with
learning
programs
-
our sports program
-
our canteen and uniform
shop
-
the library
-
with grounds improvement
The school has a very active P&C. Meetings are held on the
second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the library. New members are
always welcome. These meetings are an important link between home and
school, as they often are used to explain and demonstrate new ideas in
our programs. The P&C plays a vital role in fund raising which
supports our enriched curriculum. The Association also plays an
important part in improving the physical appearance of the school.
The canteen operates daily, selling a variety of healthy food at both
Recess and Lunchtime. Lunch orders must be placed before 8.50am. Please
write the student’s name, class and order clearly on the outside of a
paper bag.
The canteen relies on the constant support of voluntary help from
parents, grandparents and friends. If you are able to assist please
phone the school on 9481 8575 or visit the canteen to speak to one of the
supervisors. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
These are held as required and parents,
dedicated staff and students help to maintain a safe and attractive
playground environment. The day’s hard work is usually concluded with a sausage
sizzle. These days enhance community relations.
Parent (and Grandparent) tutors provide support for our Learning Difficulties program by
hearing students read on a regular basis which increases the self esteem
of students as well as their reading ability. Parent tutors are highly
valued by the school. They receive training from the Learning
Difficulties teacher and there is always room for more volunteers.
Parents and family friends are welcomed in classes. They carry out a
multitude of roles including management of home readers and assisting
with reading and maths groups. Parents are often required to provide
transport.
Parents are always welcomed to support extra curricula activities such
as dance, band and sport and often have the chance to attend excursions
and days out with the children.
The school supports Stewart House which “has a proud record of providing
short-term respite care to thousands of children in need each year.”

Used Clothing Drives
are held twice a year to raise funds for this very valuable
organisation. Another fundraising event for Stewart House includes
Dolphin Day.
Our school SRC also
organises events to support other worthwhile charity appeals during the
year.
Out Of School Hours (OOSH) Care is available to students in “Dorothy’s
Cottage”. It is a childcare centre that aims to provide high quality
care at affordable rates.
Cherrybrook OOSH is managed by a parent management committee who employ
qualified staff.
The timber building, situated at the end of the staff car park, was
originally a classroom at Thornleigh Public School. Following
negotiations between the P&C and the Department of School Education it
was transported to the current site in 1990. To obtain the building the
P&C had to meet the cost of removal from its original site.
The building was named by a student fascinated by the similarity to
Dorothy’s Cottage in the “Wizard of Oz”.
